May 25: Backbends and Concepts of Backbending; Closing postures & Intro to chakras
In this workshop we will address the principles of backbends and how we can set ourselves up early on in the series to develop good patterns for backbends. We will look for the oppourtunites within the practice itself to identify habits that form and how to help solve them and create a deeper awareness of lower back strength and length throughout the entire practice so that by the time we come to the backbending portion of the class our students are well prepared. We will also review the whole series of traditional backbending and why it is important and how it can be modified.
We will then explore the closing sequence and look at its importance for the physical, energetic and emotional body to balance.
Our philosophy portion will be an introduction to chakras and how they relate to our yoga practice.
