This series of workshops will help to develop confidence in teaching by allowing for teaching time each week. Teaching, like our yoga practice requires practice and repeition in order for us to start to feel more natural and comfortable in front of a class. The only way to get rid of our fears is to face them! These workshops will be the safe space where we can do that. SENSIBLE SEQUENCING In this workshop we will look at ways to approach building a sequence as a new teacher. Sensible thematic progression, pose / counter-pose, and creating a complete, comprehensive practice for your students will all be addressed in this workshop. TEACHING BEGINNERS Teaching beginners is a distinctly challenging and rewarding art. Laying the foundation for what we hope will be a life long practice places the teacher in a unique and privileged position. It is an incredibly rewarding and delicate aspect of teaching and requires some special skills to keep a beginning student safe, happy, and practicing. These skills include a practical knowledge of anatomy, potential injuries and how to avoid them, understanding how poses feel to a new student, safe adjustments and instructions, and understanding the emotional experience of learning something both new and difficult.
EFFECTIVE STRUCTURING OF CLASSES In this workshop we will look at the natural evolution of a class, (beginning, middle and end) and how to define and then sequence together these elements. We will explore ways to develop themes for your classes. Choosing a theme, warming up and explanation and then the selection and sequencing of poses.
IDENTIFYING AND WORKING WITH STUDENT INJURIES This workshop will examine the most common yoga injuries and detail related safety aspects as a means of injury prevention. In addition, participants will learn how to read bodies to identify future problem areas and how to modify a yoga practice during the healing process. Either due to repetitive strain or overstretching, the most common yoga injuries occur at: • Wrists • Neck & Shoulders • Knees • Hamstrings • Spine & Sacrum Participants should review the anatomical structure of these joints and muscle groups prior to the workshop. |
